Outdoor Speech Therapy For Kids: What It Is And Why We Do It

We have some BIG news to share with you! After a year of working behind the scenes, We are excited to announce the addition of speech therapy to Good Nature Therapy Services 🙌.

Adding speech therapy allows us to provide a more complete, nature-based therapeutic experience, making it easier for children and families to receive multiple therapy services in one place. Initially, speech therapy will be available for individual evaluations and treatment sessions. Eventually, we’ll begin offering outdoor groups where kids can work on practicing real skills in actual social situations with peers.

Outdoor Speech Therapy

What is Speech Therapy for Kids?

Speech therapy supports children who face challenges related to communication, play, and social interactions.

Using the Good Nature Therapy Approach, speech therapy sessions will flow between our homey indoor space and spectacular outdoor therapy garden. The overall therapy plan will be focused on building on your child’s strengths, the goals that matter to you, and lots of parent support.

Why do we take speech therapy outdoors?

Here are some of top reasons we are excited to take speech therapy for kids outdoors!

  1. Natural Inquiry: When outside, children naturally feel prompted to ask questions and make spontaneous comments.

  1. Spontaneous Learning: The natural environment encourages children to explore and express themselves, enhancing their understanding of the world.

  1. Social Language Skills: Interactions in outdoor settings help children practice and develop social language skills such as sharing special interests, taking turns in conversation, and commenting on their surroundings.

  1. Multi-sensory Learning: Outdoor environments engage all the senses, which can enhance learning, improve focus, and increase retention of new words & concepts.

  1. Experiential Learning: Hands-on activities like exploring natural elements help children understand verbs, descriptive words, and language structures.

  1. Connection to Real-World Contexts: Children learn language in real-world contexts, making it easier for them to generalize skills to everyday life.

In a nutshell, with speech therapy at Good Nature Therapy, your child will feel inspired, successful, and celebrated as they play their way toward meeting their goals.
