  • What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?
Occupational therapy is the process of helping people engage in activities that are meaningful to them, also known as their occupations. Children's occupations include playing, working, school, socializing, growing, learning and interacting with the world around them. When participating in these occupations are difficult occupational therapy can help! Occupational therapy sessions focus on child-centered, strengths based activities that develop skills that support success in their occupations.
  • Why nature? Do you ever go indoors?
These days, children have ever increasing requirements on their physical and mental capacities. They are required to sit and focus more and for longer periods of time. Nature provides a natural environment where children can move their bodies and calm their minds all while experiencing different terrains and sensory input in an organic way. Occupational therapy in nature still works on similar goals and makes similar progress to clinic based OT but we work with nature to accomplish those goals all while helping children and their families form a connection to nature and each other. We do not use an indoor location and strive to be outdoors in all weather! We believe in dressing for the weather and will only cancel sessions if the weather is deemed unsafe (for example, thunderstorms, hail, extreme cold, etc.). We have a camping toilet available during individual occupational therapy or park provided rest rooms during groups.
  • What happens if it rains or snows?
If it rains or snows then we fully enjoy the rain and snow and the different opportunities it offers! We focus on dressing appropriately for the weather and can provide borrowed gear if needed. We would only cancel for extreme weather, such as lightning, hail or extreme cold.
